Job: Principal Human Factors Engineer (HFE)

About the Team

Based out of our Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Redbank, Queensland, our Specialty Engineering department consists of specialists, committed to achieving RDA’s goals of contributing to Australia’s Defence Capability.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Principal HFE to join our growing team. This is your chance to apply deep Human Factors expertise to some of the most complex and high-impact Defence projects in Australia. You’ll be the go-to technical authority, ensuring our systems are safe, usable, and mission-ready. Some of your day-to-day activities will include:

• Lead HFE across the full system life cycle – concept, design, test, and sustainment;
• Drive human-centred design in complex, safety-critical environments;
• Deliver HFE plans, analyses, and compliance to Defence and international standards;
• Partner with Defence clients, regulators, and operators to shape system usability and safety;
• Mentor and develop a talented team of HFE specialists and influence design outcomes at the highest level; and
• Represent HFE capability in bids, proposals, and senior client forums.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:

• Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline;
• Proven experience in Human Factors position;
• Demonstrable experience with applying Human Factors methodologies throughout a project life cycle;
• Ability to travel internationally and interstate, when required; and
• Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship required).
